Leave Nov 8: add a second week in Mexico City
Leaving on Sun Nov 8 and keeping the rest of the locked calendar would create a 36-calendar-day trip through Sun Dec 13, six days above the 30-day maximum. It is worth pricing only if the maximum duration can expand, or if six days are removed from the Los Angeles / Sequoia portion. The cost comparison is: fare difference for EZE-MEX on Nov 8 versus Nov 15, plus seven additional Mexico City hotel nights and daily expenses. The Mexico City to La Paz date remains Nov 22.
Leave in late October: Oaxaca and Dia de Muertos
Dia de Muertos itself falls on Oct 31-Nov 2. Oaxaca's official programs in recent years have run from late October into early November; the detailed 2026 official program is still to be confirmed. A worthwhile visit would be about Oct 28-Nov 4, including the main dates, then a week in Oaxaca.
Important trade-off: keeping La Paz on Nov 22 after that Oaxaca week adds about three weeks before the existing Mexico City block, creating a roughly 50-calendar-day trip through Dec 13. It is not too much as a six-to-seven-week travel sabbatical, but it is a materially different trip rather than a small extension.
Ezeiza constraint: a late-October Buenos Aires departure to reach Oaxaca falls inside the published Oct 24/25-Nov 11 runway-work period. It must be searched as a separate operationally risky routing, not simply compared to the Nov 8 and Nov 15 fare starts.
This cuts four calendar days and removes the Dec 9 PTO buffer plus the Dec 10-11 LA remote-work days. To make a Dec 8 LAX departure realistic, return from Sequoia to Los Angeles on Dec 7 rather than Dec 8; otherwise a same-day long-haul connection after the mountain drive is too fragile. The comparison is the LAX-EZE fare difference, against losing one Sequoia holiday day.

This only works as a single day with a car or pre-arranged private transfer. Public transport makes the cross-region transfer too fragile; if you choose buses, use the day for Tepoztlan instead and move Teotihuacan to a future visit.

Small decisions that make the week run smoothly
Book Casa Azul for Tue Nov 17 first; the museum has no in-person ticket sales, and the ticket time determines the Coyoacan sequence.
Decide the Fri Nov 20 Teotihuacan-to-Tepoztlan transfer by early November. It requires a car or pre-arranged private driver; public transport is suitable for either destination from CDMX, not for confidently chaining both in one day.
Use a generous movement buffer from Del Valle for every cross-city day. Treat metro as an option once oriented, and app rides as the easy default for airport transfers, late evenings, or tight museum tickets.
Keep Museo de Arte Popular, Templo Mayor, San Ildefonso, Xochimilco, Santa Maria la Ribera, and Mercado de San Juan as a single-choice swap list, not additional commitments.

Carry proof of onward travel and your accommodation reservation for Mexican immigration.
For money, compare the airport exchange rate with your card and ATM options rather than assuming the airport is always best. Cards are widely useful, but keep some MXN for markets and transit.
Install Uber or DiDi before arrival; use the airport's current pickup instructions. A Telcel SIM or eSIM is a practical first-day task.

Current recommendation: make the giant sequoias the California anchor. Stay longer in Los Angeles, make a 2-3 night Sequoia / Kings Canyon return loop, and fly home from LAX. Keep Death Valley or Joshua Tree as a weather-safe fallback, rather than attempting all of them. Giant Forest contains the General Sherman Tree, the world's largest tree by volume; its main trail is usually cleared in winter, although it can be icy.

Current schedules show a direct Ezeiza - Mexico City Aeromexico service, despite the earlier assumption that no direct flight was available; it should be the benchmark, not a connection.
Operational alert
Cross-checked 16 September: independent airline, industry, and tourism notices place the reduced-runway work window at 24/25 October through 11 November 2026 (the exact start date varies slightly by airline). Long-haul departures can be changed, technical-stop routed, or cancelled during that interval. The primary calendar departs on Nov 14, after the published work window; reconfirm the operating flight before ticketing because airline plans can still change.
Verdict: a strong general scuba week, particularly for sea lions, reefs and the beginning of whale-shark season. It is not the best time to make a whale or mass-mobula encounter the trip's non-negotiable objective.

Open-jaw definition: fly into one city and home from another, for example Buenos Aires to Mexico City, then Los Angeles to Buenos Aires. It avoids retracing the Mexico / Baja portion while retaining a simple Los Angeles car loop.
Flexible-date rule: for each proposal, compare the stated date plus the day before and after. That means Nov 14-16 for the primary outbound, Nov 7-9 for the longer-Mexico outbound, a three-day late-October / early-November window for Oaxaca, and Dec 7-13 around the return choice.
Next search matrix: (1) baseline EZE-MEX Nov 15 and LAX-EZE Dec 12, (2) two-week Mexico City extension EZE-MEX Nov 8, (3) a late-October Oaxaca / Dia de Muertos start despite the Ezeiza works, and (4) the same primary start with LAX-EZE Dec 8. All retain MEX-LAP Nov 22 and LAP-LAX Nov 29 unless explicitly redesigned.
Live-check status, Sep 16: Fli 0.9.0 was installed successfully but returned zero results even for an unfiltered EZE-MEX Nov 15 search. Google Flights returned 15 results for the same two-adult search, so use Google Flights and Kiwi for the current comparison. With Google set to USD, its results say prices include required taxes and fees for two adults: Copa (one stop in PTY, 13h10) was $1,393 total, while the Aeromexico / Aerolineas nonstop was $1,543 total. The nonstop is the current front-runner: 23:55 EZE - 06:45 MEX next day, 9h50. Baggage remains to be confirmed on the booking page.
Next fare test: price an open-jaw multi-city ticket with only EZE-MEX Nov 15 and LAX-EZE Dec 12, then compare it with those two one-way tickets. Keep MEX-LAP Nov 22 and LAP-LAX Nov 29 as separate regional tickets; do not insert a MEX-LAX flight, because the Baja segment is between them.
Primary open-jaw result, Google Flights: $4,115 total for two adults: Aeromexico nonstop EZE-MEX Nov 15 (23:55-06:45) plus LAX-EZE Dec 12 (11:45-10:00 next day, one stop in MEX, 4h15). This meets the usual one-stop / under-five-hour connection rule. The faster 2-hour connection was $4,473 total.
Return-date comparison, same outbound: Dec 13 was $4,473, Dec 8 was $4,908, and Dec 11 was $5,811, all for two adults and with qualifying short connections. Dec 12 is currently the clear price winner. An intentional overnight in Mexico City is allowed as a separate option only when it saves at least 25% against the best short-connection itinerary; it must be treated as a stopover, not as a normal layover.
Copa direct multi-city check, Sep 16: Copa's own site priced two adults at $2,783.56 total, including taxes, for EZE-MEX Nov 13 and LAX-EZE Dec 12. Economy Basic does not include the first checked bag. Copa publishes a $70 first-bag airport/kiosk fee for itineraries to/from Argentina; conservatively price four charges (two travellers x two international directions) at $280, for an estimated $3,063.56 total before seat selection. Direct-channel prepay may discount that fee. It remains much cheaper, but this exact itinerary starts two days early and has a 6h42 PTY layover on the return, beyond the usual five-hour cap; the savings do not turn Panama into the intended Mexico City stopover.
Kiwi bundle checked, Sep 16: $5,267 for two passengers packages EZE-MEX Nov 15 (Copa, one stop in Panama, 14:45-00:15), NLU-LAP Nov 22 (Viva direct), LAP-LAX Nov 29 (Alaska direct), and LAX-AEP Dec 9 (one stop in Lima, arriving Dec 10). Swapping only the Copa flight for the Aeromexico / Aerolineas nonstop (23:55-06:45) raises the identical bundle to $5,325: just $58 total more for two travellers. Subject to identical checked-bag terms, choose the nonstop. The bundle is not comparable to the primary open-jaw yet: it includes the two regional legs, returns three days earlier than the Dec 12 primary, and ends at AEP rather than EZE. The NLU departure also requires a Mexico City airport transfer from the MEX arrival. Confirm the included checked-bag allowance before treating its price as a candidate.

Fare-search tooling decision
Current result:Fli 0.9.0 is installed, but its Google Flights query returned an empty set for an unfiltered EZE-MEX Nov 15 search while Google Flights itself returned itineraries. Do not rely on it for this purchase until that behavior changes. Its CLI also does not currently expose a passenger-count option.
FlightClaw is not a remedy for this issue because it uses Fli for Google Flights searches. Revisit it only for price tracking after Fli is returning usable results.
mcp-amadeus is not the primary option for this trip. It requires Amadeus credentials and the underlying self-service catalog excludes several important airlines, including American and Delta, plus low-cost carriers. It can be a secondary cross-check only with a production account.
